Best Things to Do in Fukuoka with Kids: 3 Family-Friendly Spots

Best 3 Family-Friendly Places to Visit in Fukuoka with Kids

Fukuoka, Japan is usually known as a great city for food and shopping, but if you’re traveling with a baby or toddler, it’s worth adding a couple of kid-friendly stops to your itinerary too.

This time, among the best things to do in Fukuoka, I picked three places that are especially good to visit with kidsfor this list.

From places that are great even for very young babies, like the Fukuoka Anpanman Children’s Museum,to the aquarium Marine World Uminonakamichi, and the interactive exhibition teamLab Forest, here are three spots in Fukuoka that are genuinely fun to visit with kids.

At the very end of this post, I also included Klook discount codesso don’t forget to check them before you book.

1. Fukuoka Anpanman Children’s Museum

If you’re traveling in Fukuoka with a baby, this is probably the first place I’d recommend. Even though it’s called a museum, it feels much more like an indoor play space where little kids can move around and play than a place where you simply look at characters on display.

We visited when our baby was 13 months old. At that age, our little one didn’t even know Anpanman yet, but it still ended up being such a hit. The characters are adorable, the whole space is bright and cheerful, and there are so many areas where babies can wander, explore, and play.

One thing about traveling abroad with a young child is that naps and mood can throw off your entire plan for the day.

Since the Anpanman Museum is designed for children, baby-friendly facilities like nursing rooms and diaper-changing stationsare really well set up, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafés inside too. If your child is having fun, you could easily spend half a day here.

It’s also indoors, which makes it a great option on rainy days or when it’s too hot or too cold outside.

If you want to add just one activity in Fukuoka that’s truly for your child rather than for the parents, this is the place I’d recommend most.

The Fukuoka Anpanman Children’s Museum is so popular that lines can build up if you buy tickets on-site, but if you book in advance through Klook, you can skip the ticket counter and enter directly with a QR code.

It seems like the Fukuoka Anpanman Museum may be listed as a hidden product, so it doesn’t show up in regular Klook search results. You’ll need to buy ticketsthrough the link below.

2. Marine World Uminonakamichi

If your child loves fish or marine animals, Marine World Uminonakamichiis another great option.

With its massive tanks plus sharks, penguins, dolphins, and plenty of other sea life, there’s more than enough here to keep kids interested, and it’s easy to spend 2 to 3 hours exploring at a relaxed pace.

When you visit an aquarium with kids, it helps when there’s more to do than just looking at tanks, and Marine World Uminonakamichi has dolphin shows, penguins, and a wide variety of marine animals, so it’s a really fun place to spend time together as a family.

It’s also pretty stroller-friendly, which matters a lot when you’re visiting with a baby. There are ramps and elevators, plus nursing rooms and diaper-changing areas, so it’s comfortable even with very young children.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that some programs, like the dolphin show, are outdoors, so it’s worth planning around the season and weather. In the middle of summer especially, you’ll want to prepare for strong sun and heat, including the wait time before the show.

Tickets are cheaper on Klook too, so it’s definitely a better deal than buying them on-site.

The free admission age here is 0 to 2 years old, which is a little stricter than some other places, so keep in mind that children age 3 and up will need their own ticket.

3. teamLab Forest Fukuoka

If you’re looking for something a little different in Fukuoka, teamLab Forestis another fun pick.

It’s an interactive digital art space on the 5th floor of BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA, near Mizuho PayPay Dome Fukuoka.

teamLab Forest Fukuoka
2-2-6 Jigyohama, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka 810-0065, Japan, 5F BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA

Unlike a typical exhibition where you quietly look at art, this one is hands-on and much more engaging. In the “Catching and Collecting Forest,” you use an app to catch animals in the space and build your own collection, while the “Athletics Forest” lets you move your body and interact with different digital artworks.

That’s exactly why it works so well with kids who find it hard to stay quiet and still in a traditional gallery setting.

It’s indoors, so it’s great on rainy days, and the visit usually takes about 1 to 2 hours, which means it won’t take over your whole day. It also pairs well with a day around PayPay Dome or the Momochi area.

One downside, though, is that strollers aren’t allowed inside. It seems to be for artwork protection and safety reasons, so if you’re visiting with a very young baby, it’s a good idea to bring a baby carrier. Also, children under 12 must enter with a guardian, and shoes like high heels aren’t allowed, so comfortable sneakers are your best bet.

If you buy your ticket through Klook, there’s also a promotion where you get one teamLab original towel for free. If you’re planning to go anyway, it’s worth booking through Klook and picking up the souvenir too.

Where to go in Fukuoka with kids really depends on your child’s age, personality, and interests. If you want a place where a young baby can move around and play freely, go with the Anpanman Museum. If your child loves fish and marine animals, choose Marine World Uminonakamichi. And if they enjoy media art and active, hands-on experiences, teamLab Forest is a great fit.

If your trip is around 3 nights and 4 days, visiting two of these spots is very manageable, and if you’re staying 4 nights or longer, you could comfortably fit in all three.!

Since all three involve spending a lot of time indoors, they also make great backup options for days when the weather makes your plans feel uncertain.

Ever since traveling with a baby, I’ve found myself visiting places I probably never would have gone before becoming a parent, and honestly, a lot of them have been surprisingly fun. Maybe it’s because seeing my baby happy makes the whole experience more special for me too.

I hope you have an amazing trip to Fukuoka with your little one and make lots of sweet memories together.
