Hermès Pop H Mini Necklace Review: Marron Glacé Bought in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Not long ago, my husband was in Abu Dhabi
on a business trip and came back with
a Hermès Pop H Mini necklace.
I hesitated before buying it because I wondered if it was just a trendy it-item,
but everyone kept saying it’s a true classic, so I went for it.
He stopped by the Hermès boutique
at The Galleria in Abu Dhabi just to browse,
and somehow I ended up being told to pick out a necklace—such a score.
There were so many colorful Pop H necklaces and earrings,
and I also spotted the Chaine d’Ancre necklace.
Gold jewelry doesn’t usually flatter me that well,
so I asked whether they had one with a rose gold chain,
but they were completely sold out of rose gold.
For the pendant, I was deciding between white and Marron Glacé,
and after a little back-and-forth, I heard Marron Glacé was the last piece left,
which made me feel like I had to get it—so Marron it was.
It got stuffed into a suitcase on the way back, so the packaging was a little crumpled,
but my tiny orange box had still made the long trip home.

The Abu Dhabi Pop H Mini price was 2,100 dirhams,
which comes out to about $570 USD.
Buying luxury goods in Dubai or Abu Dhabi
definitely isn’t cheaper than buying in Korea,
but hard-to-find pieces are often much easier to get, which is probably why so many travelers shop for them on vacation.
In Dubai, you can even walk into Rolex boutiques
and try on popular models pretty freely.
If you’re visiting as a tourist, you can also get a 5% tax refund.
In U.S. dollars, it was around $570,
so it stays under the $800 duty-free allowance,
which makes it a great item to pick up while traveling abroad.
Time to unbox it right away.
This is the Hermès Pop H necklace,
the Mini Marron Glacé in gold.
The chain isn’t solid gold—it’s plated, just so you know.
If it were real gold, there’s no way it would cost this price.
Is this how the necklace is supposed to sit?
It moved around so much that it didn’t feel fully centered.
It also came with one of these little storage pouches.
The Marron shade is especially flattering on warm undertones.
When I had my personal color analysis done,
I was told I’m a summer cool light type,
but honestly, I still think I lean warm.
It’s kind of a beige,
or a soft light brown, and it shifts a little depending on the lighting.
I love that it isn’t loud
and seems like a color that would go with almost anything.
But the chain… the color wasn’t actually the issue.
It’s much bolder than I expected.
And it’s also pretty short.
When I put it on, it didn’t feel especially elegant—
it was more shiny and flashy than I expected, almost a little too blingy for my taste.
I think I need to swap it out for a thinner chain.
Here’s how it looks on.
I quickly snapped a mirror photo while watching my kid,
and since it’s the Mini Pop H, it doesn’t look overpowering and has a subtle presence.
Still, it really does feel a little separate from my skin tone.
It might actually look better with a plain white T-shirt,
but if I want to wear it for a long time, I’ll probably need to change the chain.
Anyway, with the Pop H necklace, the pendant is the star of the show,
so once I switch the chain, I think this will be an easy everyday piece.
