Macau Giant Panda Pavilion Review: Free Zoo Entry in Macau
A great place to visit in Macau with kids!
You can see pandas and several other animals for free
at the Macau Giant Panda Pavilion.
It’s not huge enough to call it a full-scale zoo,
but it’s still a fun stop because you can see animals like giant pandasup close,
making it well worth a quick visit.
Basic Info
Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
(Break time: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., closed on Mondays)
Total visit time: about 30 minutes
The Giant Panda Pavilion
is a little north of Coloane Village,
at the southern end of Macau, and from Coloane Village
it’s about 5 minutes by car or around 20 minutes on foot.
It’s a great place to pair with a visit to Coloane.
How to Get There
We stopped by
by taxi before exploring Coloane Village and got dropped off right in front of the panda zoo.
It didn’t seem like a road with constant taxi traffic,
but people kept arriving by taxi at the main entrance,
so for the return trip,
I think you could grab one if you wait a little.
That’s what we did too—we caught a taxi
right after another one dropped people off and headed out.
Or, you can take Bus 26Aif you prefer public transportation.
Monkeys
The first animals we saw after entering were monkeys.
There were signs explaining each species,
but I didn’t take separate photos of them.
They even had ring-tailed lemurs!
They were all adorable.
Birds
There was also an aviary next door, but I’m not that into birds,
so I just did a quick pass and mainly looked at the parrots.
Outside, there were flamingos too.
The problem was that they all had their heads underwater
while eating, so I couldn’t really get a proper look at them.
Still, flamingos are such fascinating animals
that I filmed a little and watched them for a bit.
Giant Pandas
To see the pandas, you have to go into the indoor enclosure.
The park itself isn’t very big, and the signs are clear,
so it’s easy to find.
There’s a photo spot first,
and then—right behind the glass—the pandas!!
Pandas sleep for such a long time
that I’d heard you have to be lucky to catch them being active,
but when we visited, two of them were actually
moving around and eating, which was such a win.
Each enclosure had just one panda inside.
Even when Fu Bao was everywhere online, I honestly wasn’t that interested,
so this was actually my first time seeing a real panda—and wow, they were so cute.
I genuinely kept thinking,
how does an animal this adorable even exist? Even my parents became panda-obsessed.
One of them sat facing the visitors
and gave us a full-on bamboo mukbang,
which made it so fun to watch.
It neatly sorted the bamboo leaves with its paws and mouth
before crunching away, and it was ridiculously cute.
They even had panda poop on display.
If you head back outside from the indoor enclosure,
there are about two more pandas,
but they were asleep, so all we could see were their backs.
Still, seeing two awake pandas was more than enough for me!

Red Pandas
I’d heard there were red pandas too,
so I saved them for the end,
but for some reason, unfortunately,
the red panda area wasn’t open that day.
By the time we finished looking around,
I think it had been about 25 minutes since we arrived.
It’s not a place with a ton to see,
but the pandas are so cute that I still absolutely loved this Macau Giant Panda Pavilion.

We didn’t bother going in,
but I heard they sell animal plushies at reasonable prices, starting at around $7,
so it might be worth a quick look.
