Namba Takashimaya Baby Shopping Guide: Sanrio Baby Picks in Osaka, Japan

Namba Takashimaya baby shopping guide: Sanrio Baby picks in Osaka, Japan

If you’re traveling to Osaka with a baby,

or heading there for a babymoon,

this is one baby store I really think you should make time for.

Everyone already talks about Akachan Honpo and Nishimatsuya,

so I’m skipping those

Namba Takashimaya Department Store

and sharing the Sanrio Baby shop instead.

Sanrio
5 Chome-1-5 Namba, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-8510 일본

It’s on the 6th floor of Osaka Namba Takashimaya Department Store.

Definitely take a look at the official

Sanrio Baby Instagram account too.

I originally went in planning to buy Sanrio baby pajamas,

but I ended up getting something else and was very, very happy with it.

It’s not just Sanrio Baby, either.

They also carry kids’ items and even character goods for grown-up collectors,

so it’s a fun store to browse even if you’re not shopping only for babies.

The baby pajamas I’d seen online

were these tiny all-over Hello Kitty print pajamas,

but they didn’t have them when I visited ^_

They did have loungewear like the one in the photo above, though,

but there wasn’t a size that would fit my Haeppi,

since they only had size 100 and up.

Besides thermal sets, they also had kids’ underwear,

indoor vests, and sleep vests too.

If Haeppi had been a little younger,

I probably would’ve bought a whole collection of bibs by character,

but we don’t use bibs nearly as much now, which was kind of sad.

They also had baby weaning tableware and silicone bibs,

and honestly there were way too many tempting things.

There was a baby poncho in soft towel fabric hanging there,

and I fell for it the second I saw it, so into the basket it went.

That poncho is seriously so cute that I have to recommend it.

I’ll show you fit photos below too.

The plush towels were adorable too.

Why didn’t I buy one? They would’ve been perfect

to send along to daycare.

They had plushies in different characters and sizes too,

and there were so many plush keychains.

I showed Haeppi the plush keychains one by one

and let the baby choose. Can you guess which one won?

Out of all the characters, Haeppi grabbed Pochacco,

so I bought one Pochacco plush keychain.

They also had a ton of stationery, and honestly all of it was cute.

Now I’m already thinking I need to come back to Osaka with Haeppi

and buy more things next time,

even if some of it probably exists in Korea too.

They had tableware too.

If you’re a girl mom, definitely stop by when you’re in Osaka.

There were so many things I wanted, but I showed some restraint

and only bought the Hello Kitty poncho and the Pochacco keychain!

The poncho was pricey enough that tax-free shopping was possible too.

They also gave me one of these stickers as a freebie.

I picked My Melody. Now I just need to figure out where to use it.

The 6th floor is the kids’ floor, so there are lots of baby clothing stores,

plus curated shops where you can buy strollers and baby gear. Basically, there are way too many stores here that make you want everything.

I couldn’t wash the Pochacco plush after buying it,

so I sprayed it generously with sanitizer and let Haeppi carry it right away.

It has a loop attached, so it’s easy

to clip onto a strap, which I really liked.

Even back at home, Haeppi still plays with it all the time.

And now for my Sanrio Baby top pick: the baby poncho.

This was a brand-new release that had just launched in late November,

and it’s honestly so pretty that I really think you should buy one if you see it.

The Hello Kitty version came in two colors, pink and peach,

and I chose the peach because the color was especially pretty in person.

It was in the 5,000-yen range, about $35 or so, but I don’t remember the exact price.

Here’s how it looks on, and it is ridiculously cute.

It was already cute laid flat,

but once I put it on the baby, it somehow became even more outrageously cute!!!

For reference, my baby was 7 months old, 72 cm tall, and 10.5 kg,

and the size felt just about right.

Since a poncho just drapes over the shoulders,

it’s not super size-sensitive,

but I still don’t think it’ll last for years ^_

It’s definitely made for babies, not older kids.

I finally used it during our hotel staycation when the baby went swimming,

and it looked a hundred times cuter than just wrapping hotel towels around the baby.

I’m a totally smitten mom, so yes, there are a lot of outfit photos here..^^

The very bottom trim of the poncho isn’t towel fabric.

It has a regular fabric accent with a Hello Kitty scenic print of some kind,

which makes it even prettier.

Maybe the baby knows it looks cute too, because it loved looking in the mirror, haha.

All fluffy and dry on the way to the pool~

After swimming, I dried the baby off with a towel

and this was so useful for walking back to the room.

Cute, practical, and honestly there’s no reason not to buy it.

If you’re shopping for baby items in Osaka or looking for a baby gift,

this is one of those can’t-miss purchases that would make an easy, foolproof present.
