American Village Okinawa souvenir shopping was one of the easiest and most fun stops on our trip.
If you’re planning sightseeing in Okinawa, Japan,
American Village is basically a must.
There are tons of good places to eat, you can catch the sunset at Sunset Beach,
shop for souvenirs, and take a relaxed walk all in one area—
definitely one of the best places to visit in Okinawa.

People call this area a little slice of America in Okinawa,
and once you get there, it makes sense.
It was built on the site of a former U.S. military base and designed to feel like a West Coast port town,
so it doesn’t feel very Japanese at all—in the best way.
The colorful buildings make the whole place feel like an open-air amusement park,
and it instantly puts you in vacation mode.

There’s free parking scattered throughout the area,
and a lot of people also use the parking lot at AEON Mall Chatan.
It’s not the easiest place to reach by public transportation,
so renting a car is the simplest option,
or you can book a shuttle or bus tour to make things easier.
There are even round-trip pickup and drop-off options
that take you straight to American Village and back.
There are also full-day tours that bundle northern Okinawa together,
so in one day you can visit Manzamo, Churaumi Aquarium, and American
Village all at once.
If you’re traveling without a car,
and figuring out buses and checking maps nonstop sounds exhausting,
adding a one-day tour like this in the middle of your trip
can make everything a lot more comfortable and convenient.

Compared to other parts of Okinawa, this area really leaned into that resort-town vibe,
and I loved feeling the ocean breeze while walking around.

We took a stroller walk and grabbed some Blue Seal ice cream too.

There are three or four Blue Seal locations
clustered close together inside American Village,
so if one line looks too long, just head to another nearby branch.
American Village Okinawa Souvenir Shopping at Minino
While wandering around, this souvenir shop caught my eye.

It looked big, busy, and worth a stop, so I went in.
The shop name is Minino!

For some reason, Okinawa seemed to have way more souvenir T-shirts than other cities in Japan.

There was even a limited-edition tanning Hello Kitty T-shirt
that you can only buy at American Village.

They also had tanning Hello Kitty bags, towels, and reusable shopping bags.

There was black Hello Kitty too,

plus tanning Hello Kitty and tanning My Melody.

They even had the long-legged tanning Hello Kitty version.

I also spotted Tamagotchi character goods,
which I personally loved.

There was a great selection of Monchhichi items too.

Sanrio character socks

Character pouches

Magnets

Pencils, pens, chopsticks, and stickers

Crayon Shin-chan hand towels, beach towels, and mugs

Orion and SPAM slippers and flip-flops

Even sunglasses and men’s underwear.

By the time we were almost done shopping,
one person in the group definitely needed to go get in the checkout line early.

There were so many cute Hello Kitty keychains,
but I ended up bringing home just one—the mermaid tanning Hello Kitty.
I clipped it onto my diaper bag, and I still love it every time I see it.

I also bought a Blue Seal T-shirt for my baby.
I got size 90 so they could wear it right away in summer.

For anyone wondering about the sizing on the baby Blue Seal T-shirt,
my little one was 79 cm tall at the time
and weighed about 11 kg.
Now they’re a little bigger—around 80 cm
and about 12 kg—and size 90 fits just right.

The fabric doesn’t have a lot of stretch,
so honestly, sizing up one more would have been fine too.

Why do I have zero normal photos of my baby wearing this T-shirt?
Anyway, I’m wrapping this up quickly because it’s time for daycare pickup…
