Kansai Airport to Namba Rapit Train Guide: Round-Trip Tickets, Timetable, Route, and Prices

How to ride the round-trip Rapit train between Kansai Airport and Namba, including the timetable, route, and on-site ticket purchase tips

Kansai Airport is the first gateway to any Osaka trip.

If you want to get from Kansai Airport into central Osaka,
the Limited Express Rapit trainis the one to take.

Where to catch the Kansai Airport Rapit

Once you arrive at Kansai Airport and come out,
you’ll see a long escalator on the left
along with an elevator.

Follow the signs up to the second floor,

and you’ll find
a skybridge that leads over to Kansai Airport Station.

Cross it, and you’re right in the station concourse.

You can buy your ticket there on the spot,
or board with a ticket you reserved in advance.

Rapit tickets Buying at the station vs. booking online

For the Limited Express Rapit,
booking ahead is always cheaper than buying on-site.

One important thing about online tickets:
in most cases, they can’t be used the same day,
and only become valid starting the day after purchase.
So make sure to book at least one day in advance.

For online reservations,
I usually recommend third-party sites
like Klook, My Real Trip, or KKday,
since they’re often cheaper than the official site.

At the time of checking, Klook was the cheapest
at $9.That said, depending on your coupons
or promo codes,
just book wherever gives you the lowest final price.

You can also choose your seat in advance,
which is nice if you want a specific spot.

This is an example of a ticket bought through My Real Trip,
but the process is similar on other platforms too.

When you open the voucher sent after booking,
you usually won’t see the QR code until the day before or day of travel.

Open the link again on your travel day,
and the Rapit train QR code will appear.

A screenshot won’t work at the gate,
so pull up the live ticket screen
and scan that QR code at the turnstile.

Riding the Rapit train with children

The catch is that child tickets
usually aren’t sold on Klook or My Real Trip.

So unfortunately, if you’re traveling
with a school-age child,
you’ll most likely need to buy that ticket at the station.

Even then, you can still save money by booking
the adult ticket online and only buying the child ticket on-site.

For on-site purchase, you can use
the ticket vending machines,
or go to
the staffed ticket information counter you see there.

Also, the free ride policy for children under 6
only applies if they don’t use a separate seat
and sit with their guardian

such as on a lap.
If that sounds uncomfortable and you want them to have their own seat, you’ll need to buy a child ticket.

Also worth noting:
only up to two children under 6 ride free per adult guardian.

Waiting for Dad while he went to get the tickets

We wanted to ride in the Super Seat car,
so we skipped online booking and bought tickets at the station.

Super Seat tickets aren’t sold
on Klook or My Real Trip, so you have to buy them in person.

Regular Seat cars have a 2-2 layout,
while Super Seat cars are arranged 2-1, so they feel roomier
and have a bit more legroom too.

If you buy Rapit tickets on-site,
you’ll get a paper ticket like this. Super Seat is in cars 5 and 6.

Where to board

Once you scan your QR code at the gate
or insert your paper ticket,

you’ll immediately see the escalator going down to the platform.

If you have a stroller,
there’s also an elevator directly across from the escalator.

Since the platform is also used
by regular express trains,
you might worry it’ll be confusing on your first visit,

but there are signs on the pillars, walls, and even the floor
clearly showing where to board the Rapit
in Korean, so honestly it’s harder to miss than to find.

Route from Kansai Airport to Namba

The Rapit train route looks like this,
and there are two train types: Rapit Alpha and Rapit Beta.

The difference between them is whether they stop atKishiwada or Sakai
stations.
Since most tourists don’t get off there,
it’s not something you need to worry much about.

Rapit Beta runs much more frequently,
while Alpha only operates at certain times.

For most travelers,
you can just hop on whichever one fits your schedule.

Boarding the train

Right on time, the train was pulling in.

One of the signature features of the Rapit train in Japan
is its large round windows. The design is so cute.

Depending on the season
or when there’s a major event,
the exterior wrapping changes pretty often, which makes it fun to see each time.

Each Rapit car also has
a luggage storage area like this,
so there’s plenty of room for large suitcases or a stroller.

The train only has six cars,
but there are enough restrooms on board.

Baby’s very first train ride ever—looking around at everything

Since our happy little baby rode free,
there wasn’t a separate seat assigned,
but if there’s an empty seat, the staff won’t say anything if you use it.

Our destination was Namba,
and since it’s only about a 35-minute ride,
the trip went smoothly without any crying or fussing.

The onboard display shows Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean,
so it’s easy to keep track of the stops.

Rapit from Namba to Kansai Airport

We took the Limited Express Rapit again on the way back to the airport.

You do not want the Osaka Metro Namba Station or Osaka-Namba Station—
you needNankai Namba Station’s dedicated platform on the 3rd floor.

Going from Namba to Kansai Airport,
it’s the same deal: if you book in advance onKlook orMy Real Trip
and use the ticket there,
you can just scan the QR code and walk right in, which is super convenient.

The train reservation voucher has a long validity period,
so it’s handy to buy both your outbound
and return tickets at the same time.

This is what it looks like in front of the Rapit ticket gate.
It’s always so crowded that I never managed to get a proper photo. ^^;

If you didn’t manage to book online by the day before,
you can also buy tickets on-site at Nankai Namba Station.

You can use the automatic ticket machines,
but surprisingly, the staffed counter often has a shorter line,
so I usually go to the manned ticket window when buying in person.

This is the latest Rapit timetable as of 2025.12,
but rather than checking it on paper like this,

it’s easier and more accurate
to check the official website directly. (Korean supported)

Where to board the Rapit at Nankai Namba Station

At Nankai Namba too, the station makes it hard to get lost:
there are purple markings on the floor and walls
showing exactly where to board the Rapit train,

so if you just follow the purple number 9,
you’ll get there without much trouble. Even if you’re terrible with directions, you’ll be fine.

On the return trip, it was a Snoopy-themed train, which was ridiculously cute.

From the outside, the windows looked covered with stickers, so I thought

the view from inside would be blocked—but not at all.

From inside the train,
you can still see out perfectly clearly, with only a faint hint of the design from certain angles.

Maybe it’s made of tiny dots or something? Either way, the technology is kind of amazing.

Baby’s second train ride in life

We used the Super Seat again this time.

Super Seat definitely feels more comfortable with a young baby because it’s less crowded and there’s more space between rows.

Buying tickets and boarding is pretty straightforward,
so the Rapit is easy to use even for first-timers.
