Hotel Sacher Blaue Bar Review: Elegant Hotel Bar in Vienna, Austria

Hotel Sacher Blaue Bar is one of the most atmospheric hotel bars in Vienna, Austria. After dinner with a German friend who lives in Vienna, we stopped by this beautiful bar inside Hotel Sacher. My friend works at the hotel, and since we were staying there too, she was able to reserve us a table with her staff perk.

Hotel Sacher Blaue Bar inside Vienna, Austria

The bar is on the lobby level of Hotel Sacher, and its name is Blaue Bar.

Technically, it’s Blaue Bar, which means “Blue Bar” in German,

and I was told people casually refer to it that way anyway.

Because it’s located inside Hotel Sacher right in the heart of Vienna’s Ring area, it’s an easy stop if you’re staying in central Vienna, Austria.

Regular hours are 12:00 p.m. to midnight,

and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, it stays open an extra hour until 1:00 a.m.

You can visit even if you’re not a hotel guest!

That said, the bar is on the smaller side, so seating is limited.

I’d definitely recommend making a reservation or checking availability before you go.

The Vienna State Opera is right across the street,

so apparently a lot of people stop in for coffee or drinks

before or after a performance.

If you’re doing a Vienna Opera House tour or seeing a performance,

I really recommend stopping by Hotel Sacher afterward.

Inside this Vienna hotel bar, Blaue Bar is connected to this gorgeous lobby space.

From the main entrance of Hotel Sacher, walk past the concierge

and head farther inside,

and you’ll see it open up from there.

Since the bar itself is pretty compact,

you’re supposed to check bulky coats before going in.

We were staying at the hotel, though,

so we just left our coats in the room and came back down.

Past the red-toned lobby,

you suddenly spot this rich blue room tucked inside.

There isn’t really a big sign, but this is Blaue Bar.

I had already been blown away by the interiors throughout the hotel,

but the bar was just as stunning.

It feels genuinely old-world, elegant, and expensive in the best possible way.

We went in wearing pretty casual outfits,

but the atmosphere definitely makes you feel like dressing up a little.

There’s no strict dress code, though,

so as long as you’re not showing up in gym clothes or flip-flops, you should be fine.

We visited around 9:00 p.m., and it was completely full.

Luckily, my friend had reserved a table in advance,

so we got a comfortable corner seat.

There was also a group of Japanese guests there,

around 10 people, and they were seated together,

so it looks like group reservations are possible too.

Every painting hanging around the hotel

is an old original piece, not a reproduction.

Since our table was reserved, they had already set out

water and a small complimentary snack for us.

Hotel Sacher Blaue Bar Menu in Vienna, Austria

I didn’t manage to photograph the entire menu,

just the whiskey and beer sections.

The pours are listed as 4 cl, which means 40 ml.

That’s a pretty generous single pour, and whiskey prices

start at around the low 20,000 KRW range, or roughly $15, with a wide range above that.

The best part, though, was that my friend got us

a 50% staff discount… amazing.

They also have beer, cocktails, mocktails, and other drinks,

and beyond alcohol, there’s coffee and dessert too.

The three of us each ordered a drink.

The tables looked a little too small for ordering much food,

but honestly, we were mostly there to catch up.

I spent the evening chatting with my friend, switching back and forth between Korean and English.

Maybe it’s because it’s a luxury hotel,

but everyone there had great manners.

Even though the tables were close together and the bar was full,

it never felt too loud, which I really appreciated.

If you’re traveling to Vienna, Austria and looking for a stylish bar or café with real atmosphere, I definitely recommend Hotel Sacher Blaue Bar.

They also serve coffee and Sachertorte here,

so if the wait at Café Sacher is too long,

this is a great alternative to keep in mind after 12:00 p.m.
